Online drivers ed in Texas allows teens to learn the basics of safe and responsible driving without attending a classroom course. With our self-taught program, you don't need a parent or guardian to be present. This means you don't need to stay after school, take long and expensive in-person classes or work around the schedule of a parent or guardian. What Is Covered in Texas Online Drivers Ed?

The purpose of Texas Drivers Ed is to teach defensive driving habits and traffic laws to new drivers. You will also learn how to reduce driving risks like distractions, negative emotions, and environmental hazards. The self-paced course includes 32 hours of required education.

Earning Your Texas Learner's Permit

Teens ages 15–17 can take the online learner's permit exam as soon as they complete Module 1 of the course, which takes about six hours. To get your learner's permit, visit a driver license office with a parent or legal guardian and provide your drivers ed certificate and all required documents. You must bring documents to confirm your identity, residency, proof of vehicle registration and insurance, and school enrollment and attendance.

After you submit your documents and satisfy all requirements for your permit, you will get your picture taken and provide your signature and thumbprints. You must also pass a vision exam and pay the state application fee. The office will then issue you a temporary license.
